Is anyone shocked anymore that an 'Idol' contestant has had a questionable past?
Just this week, season seven contestant David Hernandez was said to have been performing as a stripper for a mostly male clientele in Phoenix , according to the claims of a club where he may have worked.
Coincidentally, MySpace videos have surfaced of Danny Noriega who, clad in lipstick-and-eye shadow, makes a salty remark about Santa and Christmas celebrations. Noriega is also seen in another video engaging in another unrepeatable-on-this-site freestyle after belting out a solid a cappella version of "Chain of Fools."
But wait, there's more! Pint-sized Ramiele Malubay can be seen in some compromising photos with her friends on Myspace, and the National Enquirer alleges they have full nude photos of Amanda Overmyer.
While producers have said that Hernandez's past won't have any effect on his standing on the show, those same producers are probably scrambling to get Noriega's clips off the internet as fast as possible.
Hernandez isn't the only stripper to grace the "Idol" stage; season one Nikki McKibbin remained on the show when her risqué past came to light. And while last year's contestant, Antonella Barba, who was seen in a nearly limitless amount of scantily clad photos, wasn't hindered (or helped) by the scintillating pics.
Only three contestants have ever been booted from "Idol" for their past (and possibly undisclosed) discretions; season two's Frenchie Davis for appearing on a pornographic website, season two's Corey Clark for lying about three misdemeanour charges and season four's Donnie Williams, for a DUI arrest during the season.
While "Idol" remains the most popular show on television, it seems that the sordid histories of contestants have had little effect on ratings, and may in fact have drawn more viewers in.
If anything, the release of these photos and videos should serve as a warning to future "Idol" hopefuls and teenagers everywhere about the dangers of sharing too much information on the internet.
