American Idol Results Shocker - No One Eliminated
To kick off the American Idol Top 6 results show, Ryan Seacrest had trouble reading the teleprompter and had to do the opening twice. After finally completing the intro, Seacrest promised the most shocking result in the history of American Idol. Seacrest also revealed that over 70 million votes had been cast, setting a new world record.
From the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Ellen DeGeneres hosted the performance part of the Idol Give Back special. The always hilarious Ellen poked fun of Seacrest's promise of the most shocking results in the history of Idol and asked "Am I getting kicked off? What could be so.there's six people, one's going to get kicked off, what's shocking? Am I going? Just tell me now, because that's not fair if that's what you brought me here for."
Earth, Wind, & Fire sang a compilation of several songs, followed by a pre-taped segment of American Idol judge Randy Jackson visiting with some of the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The remaining six American Idol finalists gave a group performance of a new Quincy Jones song called "Time To Care."
Comedian Ben Stiller started singing "Reminiscing" and said he wouldn't stop until two hundred billion dollars was raised. In a pre-taped segment, Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell visited with children in Africa . Switching back to the results portion of the show, Ryan Seacrest asked Melinda Doolittle to stand up and told her that she was safe. In another pre-taped segment, Paula Abdul visited the Boys & Girls Club in Hollywood .
Back at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Il Divo performed "Somewhere." Seacrest selected someone from the audience to introduce the next act. It turned out to be Jack Black, who insisted on singing "A Kiss From A Rose." When Jack Black asked for feedback from the judges, Simon Cowell said "The real truth, you were better than Sanjaya." The camera cut to Sanjaya in the audience, who was laughing and clapping. Sitting in the audience behind the judges was none other than Seal, who said "I thought that was the best rendition of 'A Kiss From A Rose' that I've ever heard."
In a return to the results segment, Ryan Seacrest revealed that Blake Lewis was safe. In a music video sponsored by Ford, Carrie Underwood performed "I'll Stand By You." Back at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Rascal Flatts performed "My Wish." In a pre-taped segment, Paula Abdul talked about the challenges facing the children in the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky .
In the Ford music video, the remaining six American Idol finalists performed "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." Returning to the results, Seacrest asked Phil Stacey to stand and told him that he was safe. Ellen DeGeneres announced that she was personally donating $100,000 and challenged others to match her pledge. Josh Groban backed by the African Children's Choir sang "You Raise Me Up."
After a pre-taped segment on Malaria in Africa , Kelly Clarkson sang "Up To The Mountain." In a Simpson's cartoon short, Simon Cowell sang for the Simpson family. Returning once again to the results, Seacrest asked Lakisha Jones to stand and told her that she was safe. In the surprise duet hyped on last week's American Idol results show, Celine Dion sang a duet of "If I Can Dream" with a virtual Elvis Presley. Madonna appeared in a taped segment urging people to donate.
At the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Annie Lennox played piano and sang "Bridge Over Troubled Water." For the final results, Seacrest asked Chris Richardson and Jordin Sparks to stand up and revealed that Chris Richardson was safe. Then after talking about how shocking it was, Seacrest revealed that Jordin Sparks was also safe. Seacrest explained that this week's votes would be added to next week's vote and the bottom two would be sent home next week. To close out the show, the remaining six American Idol finalists met with Bono and sang "American Prayer."
